Our 'Under the Hood' Review: We have tested the Medical Practice Edition 2 in the real-life environment of academic medical center in New England, where the hustle and bustle (and noise) truly put it to the test. We have used it with a variety of microphones, including the PowerMic II, the Sennheiser ME3, all three versions of the SpeechWare TableMike and the SpeechMic Premium. There are our preliminary thoughts:. Overall, we were extremely impressed with this version and found the many upgrades contributed to a significant improvement in our overall documentation and user experience. The system requirements are similar to the original Dragon Medical Practice version. Set-up and installation is straightforward.
If you are upgrading an existing installation, this is a 'smart install' and will easily upgrade your existing user files, including acoustic model, commands, and vocabulary for use in the new version. On a fast computer, an entire clean (new) installation took about 23 minutes, start to finish, not including creation of the first user file. We are extremely impressed with the accuracy of this edition. Without question, this is the most accurate version of Dragon Medical to be released and it is noticeably more accurate than the previous version.
We like the ability to use the dictation box with transparency to collect (verbally) information while moving through data on the electronic record before transferring into a note in progress. We very much like the improvement in USB sound device handling and believe that laptop users who are frequently connecting and disconnecting their USB microphone will find this a great improvement. Although we find the ability to use this version of Dragon with an iPhone or Android phone unlikely to impress the medical community, we have discovered that when set-up in this way our iPhone/iPad adapter can be used to attach almost any analog microphone to your mobile device and this makes your mobile phone a means of turning ANY analog microphone into a wireless microphone. This isn't to say there are some disadvantages to this over a dedicated wireless microphone, but it is, nonetheless, and great option.
